Delete Your Account
Last updated: May 1, 2026
You can delete your Viglot account and the personal data associated with it at any time. This page explains how to do it and what happens to your data.
1. Delete from inside the app (recommended)
The fastest way to delete your account is directly from the app:
- Open the Viglot app on your device.
- Sign in if you are not signed in.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll to Delete Account and confirm.
Once you confirm, deletion starts immediately. You will be signed out and your account will no longer be accessible.
2. Delete by email (if you cannot access the app)
If you have lost access to your device or cannot use the in-app option, send a deletion request from the email address registered to your account to:
Please include the subject line "Account deletion request". We will verify the request, complete the deletion, and confirm by email. We respond within 30 days, typically much sooner.
3. What gets deleted
When your account is deleted, the following personal data is permanently removed from our systems:
- Your account profile (email, first name, optional profile fields you provided)
- Your conversation history with the app's scenarios
- Your spaced-repetition progress and exercise statistics
- Your voice-task attempts and results
- Your push notification identifiers
- Your device registration records
- Your usage quota counters
Voice recordings are not stored at any point: they are processed in real time and discarded immediately.
4. What is retained and why
A small amount of data is retained for a limited time after account deletion, in line with applicable law:
- Trial-claim hash — a one-way SHA-256 hash of your device identifier is kept for up to 365 days after the trial was claimed, even if you delete your account. This prevents the free trial from being re-claimed on the same device through repeated account creation. The record is pseudonymous and is automatically deleted after 365 days. Legal basis: Art. 17(3)(e) GDPR (fraud prevention).
- Courses you created in the app — retained in anonymized form (your user identifier is removed) so the learning content can continue to serve as a resource. Legal basis: Art. 17(3)(d) GDPR.
- Generated learning materials (images and audio created for exercises) — these contain educational content, not personal data, and are reused across users.
- Billing records — if you held a paid subscription, transaction records may be retained as required by tax and accounting law (typically up to 10 years under German law). Legal basis: Art. 17(3)(b) GDPR.
5. Cancel your subscription first
Deleting your Viglot account does not automatically cancel an active subscription you purchased through Apple App Store or Google Play. The app store handles billing independently. To stop a subscription, cancel it in your app store account settings before deleting your Viglot account.
- Google Play: Play Store → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Viglot → Cancel.
- Apple App Store: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Viglot → Cancel Subscription.
6. Export your data before you delete (optional)
If you want a copy of your data before deletion, you can request an export from inside the app or by emailing info@viglot.com. We provide your data in a portable, machine-readable format under Art. 20 GDPR.
7. Can I get my account back?
No. Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. To use Viglot again after deletion, you would need to create a new account. Note that the trial-claim hash described in section 4 may prevent a fresh free trial on the same device for up to 365 days.
